Black Tap

Black Tap.

Description: Creative gourmet burgers, modern sides & shakes served in a small, casually hip space

My Description: Amazing resturant, best burgers and best shakes ever. Just. AMAZING! Mic Drop

Do I need to say anything else? I don’t think I have to, but I will. My friend’s birthday was the other day and she celebrated at Black Tap. I have been wanting to go to Black Tap for a while. The only problem is that you can’t make reservations, so you may end up standing in a 2 hour line. That is what happened to me the first time I tried to go. I was not going to stand in a line for two hours, so I left. My friend’s birthday celebration was my chance to finally go to Black Tap. It was a half day of school, so we went straight from school to the city. Once we got there, they told us the wait would be about 20 minutes. It was a miracle! We were seated in less than 15 minutes. Basically, the decor consists of wood. The walls, chairs, tables, and everything in between is wood!  But, the restaurant allows you to write and draw on the wood. You can barely see the wood anymore. It is so dark with names and drawings, but it was really fun to write all over everything. I ordered the California burger with beef, and it was the best burger I have ever had. I am not exaggerating, it was amazing. The cheese was warm and melted when I bit into it. Their sweet potato fries were bomb, but the onion rings are so good too. I just can’t say enough good things. But, the best for last. Their milkshakes!!!! They are so pretty, but they also taste AMAZING. I chose the sour power black cherry shake, and it is hands down the best shake I have ever had. All the candies and decorations on top were also delicious. I thought that since it was pretty, it wouldn’t taste good. I was very wrong. It tasted as wonderful as it looked. As you can tell, I really loved this place. I highly recommend Black Tap, and I would give it 5 stars. I say this every time, and I will say it again, if you are ever in New York City, make sure to check it out because you will love it.

Snow Daze

I love going to bed knowing that when I wake up there will be piles of snow outside my window. Lighting a candle, sipping hot chocolate, looking out my window at the winter wonderland, it doesn’t get much better. Tuesday of last week was a snow day. You probably heard of the Nor’Easter. One hit New York hard earlier this winter, but I guess the snow wasn’t done. It came back stronger than before, covering us in a snow blanket of 12 to 14 inches. I decided to spend the chilly day inside with friends. Only a few friends could actually get to my house, so it was a small group. We ate snacks, drank hot cocoa, and watched a movie. We were fortunate and the schools  announced that they would open on a two hour delay on Wednesday. I set an alarm for eight o’clock so there would be time to get ready. The first thing I did in the morning was practice piano. As I was practicing, I got a text that read, “WE HAVE NO SCHOOL!”. I had been hoping for this, it is like a weekend in the middle of the week. I decided to take advantage of my second snow day. I invited five friends over to take pictures for VSCO and Instagram. I wore a very summery outfit despite the wintery conditions. We had a ton of fun, and I had two very productive and great days.

February Break

DAY 1:

This Monday marked the beginning of February break!!! I want to apologize for the lack of blogging for the past week or so. During the week before break, all the teachers slammed us with tests and quizzes. It was a very stressful week, and school has to be my first priority. Just as a disclaimer, and now that it is break, I have plenty of time to get back in my blog game. So, on the first Saturday of break, I went to lunch and then to a show. I went to The NoHo Star and Blue Man Group!!! It was such a fun time that I will never forget. The show didn’t start till 3:00, so we had plenty of time for lunch. The restaurant was really good. Since it is super close to the theater, it was perfect. I got their classic burger and it was delicious. They are a brunch place on weekends, so you can also get different types of breakfast foods there. The restaurant was really cute. Overall, I had a great time and if you are ever in that area, I would highly recommend it.

After lunch, we had some extra time, so we walked around and saw a lot of cool street artists and performers in Washington Square Park.

Then it was finally time to see the show! They do not allow pictures to be taken during the show, so I did my best to take a few before it started. The show was really cool and it was an overall amazing experience. I highly recommend going with your family or friends because you’re guaranteed a great time. It was so funny and just straight up entertaining.

DAY 2:

Tuesday was another great day. Since Monday was a city day, we changed it up and went on a hike. We wanted a dog friendly hike so my dog could come along too. This winter has been super mild for New York, so it was between the 50’s and 60’s for our hike. The weather was really nice and sunny all day. The only slight downside was that there was snow EVERYWHERE. The snow wasn’t too deep, but after a few minutes, the snow had already soaked through my sneakers. On the drive to the trails, we stopped at a Subway to pick up sandwiches for a picnic during our hike. The hike is famous for having huge rocks, so it was fun to climb and to do some parkour. Another great day and it was really fun to be outside. I will definitely try to get out more often.

DAY 3:

Obviously, winter break is way longer than three days, but I chose to blog about these three days because they were the most interesting. So, day three, I went into the city for the second time this week. I went to China Town for a Dim Sum brunch, and then the MoMath (Museum of Mathematics). I had recently heard of Dim Sum, and I am a total foodie. I love to eat. For those who aren’t familiar with Dim Sum, it is a Chinese tradition where servers come around with a ton of different foods on carts. It is a foodie’s dream and since I love food, I was in heaven. The servers didn’t speak very much English, so you have to guess what the foods are. It is kind of like a guessing game because you never really know what you are about to eat. If you don’t like strange foods or have allergies, I wouldn’t recommend it since you never really know what you are eating. The food just keeps coming, so make sure you go hungry.

After a delicious brunch, I headed over to the Museum. This was my second time visiting, so I knew what to expect. It is a small museum focused around math, but it doesn’t feel or seem like learning. It just seems like fun hands-on games and challenges. It is for a younger crowd, so it is perfect if you have younger siblings, although I myself enjoy it.

Thank you so much for reading my post and I promise I will post again soon. I am very sorry I haven’t posted for a few weeks, but I have some blogs that will go up soon. Please leave your opinions in the comments and have a great weekend.- Suki <3

If you have read my most recent blog then you would know that I just re-did my room. As I said in the past blog, I did not have to buy anything!!! I mostly decorated with DIY’s made using stuff I already had. I made two big things. I made mason jar pen displays, and I made a knit hanging decor to go over my bed.

So first I will start with how to make this really simple hanging wall decor. I have seen this all over the place and I think they are so cute! I decided to make my own. All you need is sticks, yarn of your choice, and scissors.

I found the sticks straight out of my backyard. I looked for a medium length (about 15 inches) and somewhat straight stick. Once I found a few, I chose my favorite and washed it in my kitchen sink to get rid of the dirt and any possible bugs.

I found this yarn from a previous project and thought it would be perfect.

I started with my white yarn first. I cut a piece slightly longer than I wanted it. I figured I could always cut it shorter later. Once you have figured out your desired length, you can cut seven other pieces of the same length, giving you eight strings in total of the white yarn. After you have your strings, it’s time to tie them to the stick. Fold them in half and place them on top of the stick.

Then bring the loop around behind  the stick and pull the ends through. Cut more yarn and repeat this process until you fill up the stick. I am not doing a very good job of explaining so hopefully you can tell from the picture.

I wanted to use all white, but I ran out halfway through the stick. So, I used the gray and the magenta. Obviously, you can use whatever colors you want and there is so much you can do with this. Once you have filled it up, simply take any leftover string and tie a knot on either side so you can hang it one the wall.

This is how long mine was before I cut it. I recommend cutting and shaping it after you have hung it on the wall. My middle strand was white so it was easy to find. If all of your yarn is all the same color, just count until you get to the center and you have the same number of strings on both sides. Then, simply start from the outer string and cut at an angle until you get midway through your middle strand. Then do the same thing on the other side. Don’t worry if you don’t get it on the first try. It took me a couple of tries to get it the way I wanted it.

Overall, I am super happy with how it turned out and I hope you are too.

The next DIY are these two mason jars you could use to display your pens. You don’t just have to display your pens in them, that just happens to be what I did.  All you need is one or more mason jars, some cute or colorful pens or pencils, and some vase fillers or     “pebbles”. These are all things I had at home, but you could also find them for pretty cheap at a local craft store.

The first step is to fill your mason jars with your vase filler or pebbles. I used these clear circular pebbles.

Depending on how big your jar is will affect how many pebbles you need to put in. You can test the height of the pebbles by putting in a pen and see if it reaches to the top or whatever height you want it to reach.

After you have placed all your pebbles in your jars, it is time to add the pens. I decided to go with all pastel pens and keep a theme. I used flair pens and stabilo pens.  Again, you can display whatever you want.

When you are placing the pens in the jar, try not to put them all in the same place. Do your best to spread them out, this is when they look best. This DIY was very self-explanatory and simple.

I know it was only two DIY’s, but these you are the big DIYs  I did for my room. Both of these DIYs are customizable, so there is a lot you can do with both of them. I hope you enjoy this blog and please leave your opinions in the comments below. Thank you so much for reading and I can’t wait to post again soon. -Suki <3
